TOULOUSE 31-7 RACING 92: FIVE-TRY TOULOUSE BOOK CHAMPIONS CUP QUARTER-FINAL SPOT

Five-star Toulouse brush aside Racing 92 to reach Champions Cup quarter-finals

Stade Toulousain storm into the Champions Cup quarter-finals after thrashing fellow French heavyweights Racing 92 31-7 in the last 16.

The reigning European champions ran in five tries in a dominant display at the Stadium Municipal in Toulouse.

Racing 92, who won the competition in 2016 and 2020, were outplayed from start to finish as Toulouse booked their place in the last eight.

It was a disappointing end to the European campaign for Racing 92, who had reached the semi-finals last season.

Meanwhile, Toulouse will look to continue their quest for a sixth European title when they face either La Rochelle or Bordeaux-Begles in the quarter-finals.

The match was played in front of a sell-out crowd of 33,129 and the atmosphere was electric from the start.

Toulouse took the lead after just five minutes when full-back Melvyn Jaminet kicked a penalty.

Racing 92 hit back with a penalty of their own from fly-half Antoine Gibert, but it was Toulouse who controlled the rest of the half.

The home side scored two tries in quick succession, the first coming from lock Thibaud Flament and the second from scrum-half Antoine Dupont.

Jaminet added the extras to both tries to give Toulouse a 17-3 lead at half-time.

Racing 92 showed more attacking intent in the second half, but they were unable to find a way through the Toulouse defence.

Toulouse extended their lead with a third try from wing Matthis Lebel, who finished off a fine break from Jaminet.

Racing 92 finally got on the scoreboard when replacement fly-half Nolann Le Garrec crossed for a try, but it was too little, too late.

Toulouse put the icing on the cake with a fourth try from replacement hooker Guillaume Marchand and a fifth try from replacement wing Lucas Tauzin.

Jaminet converted both tries to complete a memorable night for Toulouse.
